Greg Gullette
Director, Site Services East Coast
Bayer HealthCare
Age 58
Military Service
Commander,
Navy (1973-1997)
Designator
Naval Aviator (1310)

What do you do?

Oversee site services and facilities for Bayer’s New Jersey sites (Whippany and Morristown).

What’s the biggest challenge?

Trying to keep 2,400 people happy in their workplace.

What surprised you about the civilian workforce?

How specialized it is. In the military, people in line or operations roles are generalists and they learn to adapt to changing environments. Those are still good skills to have for the civilian world but you must recognize that employers are usually looking for a specific specialty.

Best advice for military job seekers?

Realize that most of the skills that you gained in the military are transferrable to the civilian workforce, so focus on the skills of the job when searching and interviewing.
