Favorite athlete? Mean Joe Greene or Jack Lambert
Childhood dream job? Stunt man
Exercise you hate most? Cycling. It is so detrimental to humans posturally, but so many people do it!
Celebrity crush? My wife…she’s been in the paper so she counts as a celebrity.

Childhood nickname: JT
Worst job? Working at the end of the line in a lumber mill.

When John Rossmiller left the Army after eight years and four combat tours, he was looking for a civilian career that counts. “The last thing I wanted to do was waste my day – my work – on something that wasn’t important to me,” he said. “I know it sounds cliché, but I guess I was looking for my next mission.”

The Drinkable Book. He found it at Folia Water, a Pittsburgh start-up that produces low-cost paper filters that eliminate waterborne pathogens from drinking water. The company sells them to NGOs and nonprofits in book form, where each page is a filter containing instructions and lessons on water sanitation and hygiene printed in edible ink. “Providing a safe, drinkable water solution to the billions of people around the world who do not have access to clean water like we do is worth my time,” he says.

Super Busy Guy. Rossmiller, 38, is the chief operating officer and chief financial officer for Folia. He directs finance, budgeting, accounting, forecasting, tax, risk management, investor relationships, cash and working capital management functions.

Ranger Regiment. Rossmiller grew up in the Pittsburgh area and enlisted after his shot at the NFL didn’t pan out. He served in intelligence with the 75th Ranger Regiment and participated in combat missions early in his career.
Injuries led to his medical retirement in 2014.

Tough Days. Leaving the Ranger regiment was hard. “I didn’t want to get out, and that made transitioning out so much harder,” Rossmiller says. “It’s like being given divorce papers, fired from a dream career that you’ll never be allowed to do again, losing your house and friends, and getting kicked out of your town all on the same day.”

The Pay-Off. It all worked out. While working on his MBA and working at a sports performance facility, one of the Folia Water founders offered Rossmiller a position.

Transition Intel. “Don’t stop. Ever. Everyone’s transition is different and they’re rarely how you want them to be. Even on my hardest days when I doubted the path I was pursuing I always told myself to keep working on my current tasks and sleep on it before I made any rash decision.”[/fusion_text][/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
