What Hotel Managers Do
Hotel managers ensure that hotels, motels or other guest establishments run efficiently and profitably. They ensure that guests are treated well and that employees are performing their required duties. Hotel managers have their hand in business operations, customer service and human resources.
Much of what a hotel manager does is to ensure the satisfaction of guests. This includes inspecting public areas of the hotel to ensure their cleanliness and that they are up to company standards. Obviously a hotel manager’s main work environment is in the hotel they are operating. However, they may be required to travel to other hotels to examine their operations or travel to a hotel’s corporate headquarters. Typically they will work full time, and sometimes they may be required to work more than 40 hours a week.

How to Become a Hotel Manager
To become a hotel manager you will need a bachelor’s degree in hospitality, hotel management or a related field. You may also be able to attain a hotel management job with a high school diploma and years of experience in the hotel/hospitality business. There are also schools/programs which offer hospitality and hotel management certificate courses.
If you are looking into a job with a full-service hotel chain, chances are you will need to have a bachelor’s degree to land the gig.
Outlook for Hotel Management Jobs
According the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average salary for hotel management jobs was $51,800 as of May 2017. Hotel management jobs are expected to increase by 4% by the year 2026. Due to the expected increase in tourism and travel over the same period, hotel managers are expected to be in demand in the future
Applicants who have a bachelor’s degree in hospitality or hotel management will have the best opportunity to get high paying jobs with large scale hotels and casinos.
