So you landed the interview, but now it’s time to turn on the charm. Here are a few ways you can impress a recruiter.

Research the Company

You never want to meet with a recruiter and know nothing about the job or company that you are interviewing for. Make sure to research the background of the company and the position. Take notes on different aspects of the company that you like and one or two small things they could improve since sometimes recruiters will ask for your advice on growth and development of the company.

Know Your Strengths and Weaknesses

Recruiters will ask you why they should hire you, it is important to have at least three positive adjectives about yourself. Often times they will also ask you about a negative thing about you. Make sure to be prepared with a real weakness of yours and a follow up of what you do to work on it. Such as, “I am forgetful at times, so I keep a detailed planner and write myself reminders.” This shows honesty and also integrity. Never tell a recruiter your biggest flaw is that you are an overachiever, that is not a flaw and the recruiter does not want to hear that.

Be on Time

You never want to arrive late to an interview, obviously, but you never want to arrive too early either. If you are too early, the recruiter could feel pressured to take you right away instead of the allotted time and they may not be prepared. Arrive 15 minutes early for the interview, no more and no less.

Look the Part

Always dress job appropriate. You want to look professional, but know the position you are applying for. You don’t want to show up in a full tuxedo to a construction job interview. Make sure that your clothes are neat and clean, wrinkles and stains can ruin an interview before it even begins.

Be Confident and Try to Relax

The recruiter has already agreed to meet with you, so something about you has already stood out. Let them know why they should hire you and they need your skills at their company. Be yourself and you have nothing to worry about
