Tell us about yourself:

The Marine Corps has made me a better student. I have learned the value of hard work and discipline. I work well with others and respect and listen to what my Marymount professors are teaching. Being a college student and earning an undergraduate degree is a goal I’ve always had.

What prompted you to return to school?

After high school, I attended college for two years then joined the Marines and served three tours in Iraq. The Marines really gave me the opportunity to go back to school. I am pursuing a B.A. in Criminal Justice which will help me in my future career endeavors.

What military education benefits, such as the GI Bill, did you use?

The Post 911 GI Bill pays for almost all my schooling, books, and a monthly stipend . To cover all expenses, I also needed a Yellow Ribbon scholarship.

What has your experience been like as a student?

I love Marymount. In fact, I’m a member of the Student Government Association. I’ve met new friends, one of whom is a fellow veteran as well as a Criminal Justice major.

What challenges did you have adjusting to campus culture after military life?

No. The first couple of days I was rather nervous, but the transition was surprisingly smooth. It feels like a great fit.

Do you believe your military experience has made you a better student?

I think that the Marine Corps has completely made me a better student. I have learned the value of hard work and discipline. I work well with others and respect and listen to what Marymount professors are teaching. I know that I have this great opportunity being able to attend such a reputable university and I am not going to let it slip away.

What advice do you have for veterans returning to school?

Stay focused on end results and work hard to achieve in every class. Participate in college life. Learn to work as a team member with both younger and older students; they will always remember your contributions as a team member. Do not forget you can always learn from others.
