Crystal Speed
Zone Manager Supervisor (soon to be in the manager training program)
Walmart
Eastland, Texas
Age 34
Military Service
Lance corporal, Marine Corps (2000; injured in boot camp)

What do you Do?

Oversee the electronics, toys, and fabrics and craft departments. Will soon enter the management training program to become a manager.

How’d you get the job?

I just put in an application and a week later was called for an interview.

Coolest thing about your job?

Walmart has a chain of command that is much like the Marines. Each level has a certain level of both the respect and duties. And if you work hard, you get promotions. Walmart gives you all the opportunity you need to become better, to succeed.

Biggest challenge?

Because of my injury, my hands shake. I was embarrassed and worried about what people would think, but it doesn’t matter here. I’ve been given the opportunity to teach other associates and have really started to grow.
